Forty Mile n Hour Grandpa
Consisting of a core group of musicians and friends that changes line-up every now and again, Forty Mile n Hour Grandpa is an exercise in spontiniety and improvisation. All live recordings were kept to the original track with some delay to sweeten things up. All studio recordings were made to be as live as possible. There may be multiple tracks, but those tracks are all one-takes. No second chances. It may be beautiful... it may suck... or both in the same song.
Examples of that spontiniety are to be found on two live recordings you will find on this page. In the course of a couple of weeks during the period where "make every song a bluegrass version" was prevalent, I threw the Rolling Stones Gimme Shelter and the Greatful Dead's Passenger out on everybody sight unseen to see if what was in my head could be put down to track without practice.... without a net. The studio recordings included try to capture that same feeling, much as they may.
In the coming months we will put up a cd of original material for sale. Until then enjoy a rough version of Heathers Jeep and the everchanging Bubbleropes. Come back often as I will try to rotate new performances in when I can.
If you enjoy what you hear and you want to donate to keeping Missouri music vibrant, please send a check or money order to: Mark Arnold 709 Saale Road West Alton, Missouri 63386 We will have an account open for the band soon. This donation, unfortunately, is not tax deductable. It will be used to buy better microphones, a laptop for remote recordings, and acoustic tile for the studio.
